The Clive Awards: FPA’s First Playwriting Competition

$40K IN PRIZES TO ENCOURAGE PLAYS FROM A CHRISTIAN WORLDVIEW

On Jan. 31, Fellowship for Performing Arts announced the launch of the inaugural Clive Awards, a playwriting competition to encourage new plays from a Christian worldview that speak to a religiously and intellectually diverse audiences.

Named in honor of Clive Staples (C.S.) Lewis, submissions for the competition are being accepted through Aug. 31, 2023, with a $25,000 first prize winner and $15,000 second prize winner announced in January 2024. Both plays also will receive a developmental reading.

“Two longtime supporters of FPA and its mission approached us with this idea,” said FPA Founder and Artistic Director Max McLean. “Their visionary commitment not only encourages dozens of experienced writers to create new stage works from a Christian worldview, it may provide new material for us to produce.”

Entrants may submit up to two plays, and there is no fee for submission. The works must directly reflect FPA’s mission of producing theatre from a Christian worldview to engage a diverse audience. The plays must be unproduced and not optioned for production. For more details visit CliveAwards.com.

“We’re excited to connect with literary artists who are inspired by our history of producing smart, imaginative, multilayered stories and adaptations from a Christian worldview,” said FPA Literary Manager Christa Scott-Reed, who is managing The Clive Awards and directed the most recent version of The Great Divorce and a revival of A Man for All Seasons. “It’s a privilege to play a role in expanding opportunities for writers who are working at the intersection of faith and culture.”
