Fellowship for Performing Arts’ current touring production, C.S. Lewis On Stage: Further Up & Further In, continues to draw full houses of engaged audiences to leading performance venues and college campuses nationwide.
The script for Further Up is taken from many of Lewis’ writings and covers the years after his conversion to Christ in 1931 to just before he published his first Narnia book in 1950.
“Lewis’ wit and insight produced an extremely rare blend of profound spiritual truth and laugh-out-loud humor,” said FPA Founder and Artistic Director Max McLean, who wrote the play and stars as Lewis.
“From the earliest stages of development, I was struck by how deeply audiences responded to Further Up & Further In. It touches that place where ‘God has set eternity in our hearts.’”
Knowing that culture is increasingly hostile to Christianity, FPA’s mission is to put forth a vision of Christianity through artistic expression that is imaginative, multi-layered and convicting, offering a counterpoint to the prevailing worldview.
Through the work of Lewis and others, our approach is to engage the imagination. Why? Because the imagination serves up the raw material of what we think about. If an idea does not capture the imagination, it will not challenge preconceptions and that is the first step toward reevaluation and change.
At FPA, we believe theatre creates the space to do that. Piggybacking on Lewis’ respect and integrity, we can address subjects theatre often avoids such as God, spiritual warfare, the gospels and Christ’s divinity.
It is your visionary generosity that makes it possible for us to produce and tour winsome, witty works that can engage, entertain and cause people to examine their own assumptions. It is a privilege to travel this road with you.
