It’s been a season of upheaval at many secular universities. This time of unrest is an opportunity for Christ to be present on campus and Fellowship for Performing Arts’ Campus Initiative is prepared to make the most of it.
“My first confrontation with the gospel came in the midst of an anti-war rally on my campus in the ‘70s,” said Max McLean, FPA Founder and Artistic Director. “I didn’t profess faith then, but hearing that person share the gospel in the midst of that campus’ unrest was a pivotal moment when the LORD got my attention. A few years later I accepted Christ as my savior.”
FPA understands how formative the college years are for impressionable minds. And we want to be on campus to make the case for Christ through the words of C.S. Lewis. This fall we are set to be at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Brown University and Virginia Tech with either C.S. Lewis On Stage: Further Up & Further In or The Screwtape Letters.
At most secular universities, and especially within their academic curriculum, Christianity is considered irrelevant to contemporary life, and so it is rarely spoken of except in a condescending way.
The picture painted is of a Christian who is a naïve fundamentalist who needs to be educated and enlightened.
FPA campus events have a track record of presenting an engaging, provocative, theatrical experience from a Christian worldview that leads students to question their assumptions and reexamine the claims of Christ. As a result, we have seen skeptics become believers, dormant Christians rekindle their faith and mature followers of Christ encouraged.
All of this is possible only through the generosity of our Fellowship Circle of supporters. Bringing one of Fellowship for Performing Arts’ theatrical productions to a university requires months of planning and preparation. And it all begins with an introduction or connection to an individual or organization that has influence on campus.
“FPA is constantly seeking key partners to serve as our on-campus host to begin the process,” said University Coordinator Erin Reed. “That partner can be a Christian organization credentialed by the university, a student leader or a professor. This is where you can help!”
If you know such a leader at your alma mater or local university, you can help us connect with them and start the ball rolling for our next campus event.

Students eagerly await seeing Max perform as C.S. Lewis. After the show, comes a time of open engagement as Max fields questions from the audience.
